Training Farmers

Here at Glynwood, we practice regenerative agriculture and train young farmers in relation to a regional food system.

  • We offer hands-on practicum and in-field mentoring supported by classroom curriculum, workshops, farm visits, and Mid-Hudson CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) participation. Programs include the Glynwood Apprenticeship and Hudson Valley Apprenticeship.

  • We provide customized business planning and technical assistance to new farm enterprises to enhance the economic and social viability of Hudson Valley farms in their first five years of operation.

  • Glynwood participates in and provides support for the Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (CRAFT), a model for sharing complementary farm training among a network of participating farms. A series of farm field days expose farmers in training to a variety of growing practices and offer opportunities for skill development and networking.

  • We host several dozen Farmer Training Workshops throughout the year for Glynwood farm apprentices, Incubator participants, and regional farmers.

  • Glynwood, in partnership with GrowNYC are proud to host the Pathways to Farming Retreat. This three-day, fully bi-lingual (Spanish and English) immersive learning experience is for people from across New York from non-farming backgrounds who are motivated to begin a career in agriculture or to move from urban market gardening to rural farmland, but are unsure of how to start.

  • A product generously funded by the J.M. Kaplan Fund, this platform represents a pivotal milestone in our commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture practices. Tailored for farmers and enthusiasts alike, the website serves as a comprehensive resource hub, providing accessible guides and valuable insights into regenerative farming.

  • Land Access
    Land Access

Glynwood promotes regional farmland access via Farmland for a New Generation New York in partnership with American Farmland Trust. Regional Navigators in this program provide technical assistance with farmland access for both farmland seekers and non-farming landowners. If you would like technical assistance with farmland access, please contact Dave Llewellyn.

  • Livestock Working Group
    Livestock Working Group

Glynwood organizes regional livestock producers to identify priority challenges and the strategies and resources necessary to address them. The four focus areas the Livestock Producer Group has identified as priorities are processing; marketing and sales; resources and contact list; and soils and agronomy.
