Growing Homes emerged from the Farmer Housing Working Group, a farmer-led, grassroots effort to address farmer housing insecurity, one of the greatest threats to the economic viability of farming in the Hudson Valley region.

The Hudson Valley region is experiencing a housing crisis that affects all working people, with unique and profound impacts on small farms. With workers unable to find housing, and farms unable to find and retain workers, small farms are downsizing, reducing productivity, or shuttering altogether.

Our purpose is to retain farmers in the Hudson Valley region by catalyzing the development of dignified, affordable housing for generations of farmers and farmworkers (agrarians) in the Hudson Valley and beyond.

Our vision is that agrarians have housing security—safe, affordable and consistent places to call home. We will pursue this through advocating for, educating about, advising on, and developing accessible housing both on and off farms.

Growing Homes is being incubated as a program of Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming as we pursue becoming an independent nonprofit.
