A Workshop to Encourage Collaboration between Non-Farming Landowners and Farmers in Search of Land

Saturday, February 21
Hawthorne Valley Farm
8:30 am–5:00 pm

Why
Farmland in the Hudson Valley is no longer affordable to most farmers looking for land to either expand or start up a new operation. Yet thousands of acres of Valley farmland are owned by non-farming landowners. Some of these landowners are interested in bringing their land into production and want to find a farmer to lease or manage it. These relationships can benefit farmers and landowners alike and provide a key to the long-term sustainability of working farmland in this region.

Workshop Goal
This workshop aims to help build an understanding between non-farming landowners and farmers who are looking for land. Both need to be clear about their perspectives, needs, and goals in order to build successful land tenure relationships. The workshop will cover concrete steps and present models for how to build sustainable relationships as well as offer advice from landowners and farmers who have successfully forged long-term relationships.
