February 21, 2009: Landings: A Workshop to Encourage Collaboration Between
Non-Farming Landowners and Farmers In Search of Land

This workshop aims to help build an understanding between non-farming landowners and farmers who are looking for land.  Both need to be clear about their perspectives, needs, and goals in order to build successful land tenure relationships. The workshop will cover concrete steps and present models for how to build sustainable relationships as well as offer advice from landowners and farmers who have successfully forged long-term relationships. Durham Agricultural Community Partnership to Present Current State of Agriculture
November 5, 2008 at 7pm

The Town of Durham NY’s Agriculture Community Partnership will meet with citizens to present their summary information regarding the state of agriculture in Durham and discuss a number of initial projects designed to make farming more profitable based on the surveys. To help in the planning efforts, Durham is participating in the Glynwood Keep Farming® Program: Connecting Communities, Farmers and Food. The program seeks to understand the local agricultural economy by collecting data, and to review the data with local farmers, community leaders and others with expertise in agriculture.

Rockland County Town Hall Meeting

The Rockland Farm Alliance is a grass roots initiative made up of farmers, residents and local organizations working together to help grow and support farming in our County.  The RFA has been conducting Glynwood Center’s Keep Farming Program to learn more about the current state of agriculture in our community; how much land is available for farming, what is being produced and what could be produced.  Learn about our progress at this town hall meeting. Harvest Celebration at Glynwood
October 19, 2008
Our annual community event celebrating the harvest season is open to the public and designed for a day of family fun. Children enjoy hayrides, scarecrow making, and games like apple bobbing, relay races, and a hay bale maze. Local Chef Eric Gabrynowicz of Tavern restaurant prepared an alfresco pig roast with all the trimmings prepared with regionally grown foods. To read more click here.

Spring Celebration at Glynwood
May 10, 2008
Glynwood celebrates spring with a day of family fun on their working farm 1pm to 5pm. Open to the public, the annual event includes the opportunity to see the baby animals, including the spring ritual of the sheering of the sheep as well as demonstrations on weaving, gardening and beekeeping. A small farmer’s market features Glynwood-produced eggs and flowers as well as Sprout Creek Farm cheeses, hand woven afghans and books. To read more click here.

Association for the Study of Food and Society
Joint Annual Meetings: May 2007
Glynwood Center has been invited to make a presentation on Keep Farming and our approach to supporting regional agriculture at the joint Annual Meetings of the Agriculture, Food and Human Values Society and the Association for the Study of Food and Society, hosted by the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia.

St. Mark’s Historic Landmark Fund
Third Annual Lecture: April 2007
St. Mark’s Historic Landmark Fund, which is dedicated to the preservation of the historic St. Mark’s Church in-the-Bowery site, chose the topic of local food for its Third Annual Lecture.  Glynwood President Judith LaBelle participated in this panel discussion of the “buy local” movement and its role in promoting economic stability. The topic reflects the Landmark Fund’s commitment to community preservation and celebrates the greenmarket in front of St. Mark’s Church, which is one of the oldest greenmarkets in New York City.

Hudson Valley Agriculture Partnership Conference
March 16, 2007
Glynwood Center has been a partner in the Hudson Valley Agriculture Partnership (HVAP) since its creation. HVAP is a diverse network of farmers, consumers, organizations, businesses and leaders working to strengthen agriculture and protect farmland in New York’s Hudson Valley.  HVAP’s third biennial conference in March 2007 highlighted “Success Stories from Our Own Backyard.” Virginia Kasinki, who served on the planning committee for the conference moderated a workshop as part of the Agriculture Economic Development track that highlighted Glynwood’s Keep Farming Program. Joining Virginia were Mary Gail Biebel, the coordinator of the Chatham Keep Farming project and Mary Ann Johnson, a key member the Red Hook Keep Farming project, who spoke about their experiences working with Glynwood and building community support. Michelle Hugh of the New Farm Development Project also participated in the panel.

The Great Estates Consortium
From Field to Table: Agriculture on the Great Estates, March 2007
Judith LaBelle participated in this day-long symposium, which took place at the FDR historic site in Hyde Park, NY. Ms. LaBelle explored the state of agriculture in the Hudson Valley and the significant role it plays in open space protection.
