Community Leadership Alliance (CLA)
In A Model Classroom for Land Use Planning
Cited by USDA as a national model for sustainable development, the Community Leadership Alliance (CLA) trains community leaders to develop land use plans that balance economic development and natural resource preservation. At CLA, participants learn:
- The details of land use law
- Zoning and planning techniques that achieve sustainable development
- Skills in negotiation, mediation, and collaborative problem solving
Throughout the multi-session workshop, participants put their new skills and knowledge into practice during extensive breakout sessions.
The CLA program was developed through a partnership of Glynwood Center and the
Land Use Law Center, Pace University Law School.
Since the CLA’s inception in 1996, more than 350 community leaders have graduated from the program conducted by Glynwood and the Land Use Law Center.
