Glynwood Harvest Awards
Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the Harvest Awards?
Glynwood Center created the Harvest Awards program in 2003 to highlight work by individuals and organizations from across the nation that do an exceptional job of supporting local and regional agriculture.  The Awards help to identify and disseminate “best practice” ideas that inspire others to take action within their own communities and build urban/rural coalitions in support of regional farmers.

Do I have to nominate someone for a specific category?
Yes.  Sometimes nominees fit into more than one Award category.  Please choose the category that you think is most appropriate for the nominee.

When is the nomination deadline?
Monday, July 21, 2008.  Electronic submissions and faxes must be received by midnight on this date.  Mailed nominations must be postmarked by this day.

How should I send letters of support?
The best way to send letters of support is via snail mail or fax.  We prefer these letters to be on letterhead.  Make sure the nominee is clearly identified in the body of the letter.

What is the deadline for letters of support and other supporting materials?
All the nomination materials must be received or postmarked by the nomination deadline—Monday, July 21, 2008.

When will I hear if my nominee won?
We will announce the winners in September 2008.  Nominators will be informed of the status of their nomination around the same time.

What is Glynwood Center?
Glynwood Center is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is Community Stewardship. It helps communities address change in ways that conserve local culture and natural resources while strengthening economic well-being and local leadership.  To accomplish these goals, Glynwood develops and implements educational and community-based programs. In addition, through its national and international network of like-minded professionals and organizations, Glynwood also gathers, develops, tests and shares innovative ideas and initiatives from around the world that may be effective in local communities in the Hudson Valley and metropolitan area.

A major focus of Glynwood’s current work is the Agriculture Initiative, with goals that include strengthening the regional food system in the Hudson Valley and surrounding metropolitan area by helping communities understand the value of regional agriculture and develop strategies to encourage farmers to stay on their land, and sharing what is learned with other regions facing similar challenges across the country.
