Q. How do I start chatting?
A. Once the login box appears at the top of this screen, simply
type your first and last name in the blank and click Connect. The
full chat window then opens, and you’re in the main chat room,
ready to start chatting.
Q. There is no login box at the top of the
screen. What happened?
A. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection, it may
take two or three minutes for the login box to appear. If it doesn’t,
try these steps in succession until the problem is resolved:
1. Click Refresh (or Reload) on your browser’s toolbar.
2. Check your version of Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape
Navigator. (How
do I do that?) We recommend using at least Internet Explorer
4.0 (4.5 for Macintosh) or Navigator 4.0. If you are working with
an earlier version, download the most recent version for free by
clicking on the appropriate link below:

Q. How do I say something in the chat room?
A. Type your question or comment in the empty block that appears
directly below the scrolling chat window. Then click Send or press
Enter on your keyboard. Your message will appear in the window above…and
on the screens of all other people in the room with you.
Q. How do I find out who else is in the room?
A. On the right side of your chat window is a box with two tabs
at the top. Click the Users tab for a list of those in the room.
Q. How do I send a private message to someone?
A. Simply double-click on the person’s name in the users’
list (see previous question). Type your message in the box that
appears and click Send. No one else will see your message.
Q. How do I know when someone has sent a private
message to me?
A. Private messages for you will appear automatically on your
screen, highlighted in yellow. To reply in private, double-click
on the private message you received, and type your reply in the
box that appears. No one else will see your reply.
Q. How do I see what other rooms are available?
A. On the right side of your chat window is a box with two tabs
at the top. Click the Rooms tab for a list of currently active rooms.
Q. How do I go to another room?
A. At the rooms list (see previous question), simply double-click
on the room you want to enter. Rooms with a lock icon require a
password to enter.
