Apprenticeships & Internships

Farm Apprenticeships
Would you like to apprentice at Glynwood? Each year, we hire seasonal apprentices to learn and work on the farm. The apprentice experience at Glynwood is designed to provide a solid background in sustainable agriculture. We are committed to educating our apprentices and encourage their weekly participation with the Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training (CRAFT) and the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) summer conference.
Our apprentices gain hands-on learning experience in all aspects of the farm’s operation, including:
- Seed starting and greenhouse management
- Seed bed preparation, direct seeding and transplanting
- Sustainable weed management and pest control
- Crop rotation and cover cropping
- Direct marketing via Community Supported Agriculture
- Record keeping and crop planning
- Care for ornamental gardens
- Pruning a small apple orchard
- Compost management
- Livestock care for cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, and turkeys
- Rotational grazing
- Basic veterinary care of livestock
- Landscape and facility maintenance
- Supervising volunteers
- Farm-based education
- Facilitation of special events
The apprenticeships run from March 1 through November 30. Work hours are 7:30am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday, and include some weekend work. Working hours may fluctuate if necessary and will include some additional work around special events. The work is physically demanding and qualified candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds. We work in all weather.
Compensation:
- Generous monthly stipend (taxable)
